Our Story

Named for the apricot blossom of Tết

Hoa mai blooms in the south of Vietnam at the turn of the lunar year — a small, bright signal that something good is beginning. It felt like the right name for a kitchen.

We cook the food we grew up eating: broth that takes all morning, herbs cut to order, fish sauce that actually tastes of the sea. Nothing dumbed down, nothing rushed.

You'll find us on Banbury Road in Summertown, a few doors up from the post box.
